Introduction

Hi there. This is a trial site for a content management system on a server in Bondi, Australia.

The site is driven by Joomla, an open source content management system using php and the mysql database and resides on an old PC.The blog is run by Wordpress, an incredibly easy to use publishing platform.

The content is made up of bits and pieces, there are articles about gadgets, printing and publishing, some notes and presentations, picture galleries from Bond, the Guitar Crazy / Coogee United soccer teams, various people snapshots, photos from trips in Australia and abroad.

About this site

Finally this site is beginning to be operational. Some details on how this works at the moment:

The web hosting (e.g. the server that hosts and sends you the data when you type in schulzi.com.au) is done by an old PC in Bondi. It has a web server software (Apache) and a database (MySQL) installed and is on an ADSL connection. It also has an email and an FTP server installed.

The domain name is delegated by Telstra, i.e. they are making sure that when you type schulzi.com.au you get to this site.

The CMS (content management system) used is called joomla.

For Whom The Bell Tolls

Recent news about print and publishing included the (not so) news that print volumes are declining, Newspapers are vanishing, magazines are getting thinner or disappear, advertising revenues are suffering in a recession and are shifting online (and could you blame them? Measurable returns, pay for results, easier, cheaper and quicker production).

The future of paper books is not looking any more promising as E-Readers gain momentum and are fast becoming mainstream gadgets and then tools, even Opra’s Life has been changed by an ebook reader?
